Power outages a big problem at Stoba-Druck

Since 1990, Stoba-Druck GmbH has stood for high-quality printed products in the areas of digital and offset printing. However, the company, based in Lampertswalde (Germany) has had to contend with power outages at the site from time to time. In this case, the machines suddenly switch to "emergency stop" and can be damaged in the process. During longer power outages, the printing ink on the rollers also dries, which is why they then have to be removed and laboriously cleaned by hand. A process that the machines could actually carry out themselves if there is electricity. "This means significantly more effort and additional costs that no customer pays," says Managing Director Eugen Stamm. This is also because the printing processes usually have to be started again and therefore more material has to be used than planned. In 2021, for example, there were seven such incidents. In addition to the technical failures, there are also problems in other areas, where everything from the PC to the telephone system to the normal copying technology or charging station no longer works.

sun2roof® with Ultralight panels is meeco the solution in case of limited roof loads

meeco Industrial Services, German branch of The meeco Group, has now provided the solution to these power outages problems. The globally active company, is well known for the sun2roof® sophisticated PV solutions to be installed on roofs with limited loads, such as those in the production halls of Stoba-Druck GmbH, where a maximum of 8kg/sqm was still available as "leeway". Specifically, the oursun® Ultralight 330W panels with a total output of 204.5 kWp were used in this project.

sun2safe® system for a sustainable uninterrupted power supply

However, this site-optimizing measure alone would not have solved the supply problem. That is why meeco Industrial Services combined this installation with a sun2safe® storage system that, in the event of a power failure, provides the environmentally friendly electrical energy to ensure an uninterrupted power supply with a special battery design. "The stored energy helps to continue the printing process” says Mr. Stamm. “The machines will be able to carry out the self-cleaning process in the future, which will minimize the additional costs. This is also combined with a significant reduction in the company's ecological footprint, as we now generate 200,000 kWh of the 400,000 kWh of electricity consumption ourselves, thus saving around 100 tons of CO2 per year," the Managing Director continued.

sun2safe® the all-in-one energy storage system

"sun2safe® system is an intelligent all-in-one energy management system that guarantees a stable and reliable energy supply 365 days a year," explains the Managing Director of meeco Industrial Services GmbH. “This is also independent of fossil energy generation and the general power grid. meeco system can combine and manage various energy sources," he continued. "Unlike diesel generators, for example, the sun2safe® system is significantly more efficient and has noticeably lower operating costs." The return on investment for this project is expected to be achieved after eight to nine years.
